What roles do I perform when working in-person with law firms?

When I created Magister AI Advisors (“Magister”), I chose the name Magister—Latin for “teacher” or “master”—to reflect my commitment to empowering legal professionals. Initially, I focused on formal training, but my work quickly became more hands-on, collaborating directly with attorneys and paralegals on active cases. Today, my role adapts to each firm’s unique needs, blending teaching, strategy, and support.
So, what roles do I perform in person with law firms? It depends on their needs, but here are six key roles I take on:
Trainer / Teacher
I demystify AI for legal teams, teaching attorneys and paralegals how to streamline drafting or showing attorneys how to refine AI-generated outputs. My sessions are tailored to team needs, ensuring practical, actionable results that enhance—not replace—expertise.
Prompt Engineer
AI thrives on clarity. I design prompts that generate accurate, relevant outputs, whether for summarizing depositions or drafting complex responses. My role is to bridge the gap between legal needs and what AI delivers.
Legal Researcher
When deadlines are tight, I use AI to assist with legal research, combining its speed with my legal reasoning to uncover key precedents, statutes, or arguments efficiently—without compromising quality.
AI Solution Architect
Every firm is different. I design and implement customized AI workflows, leveraging vector databases to power intelligent search and document retrieval, while integrating tools into existing systems or tailoring solutions for tasks like e-discovery or contract analysis, maximizing their value to the firm.
Empowering Paralegals
Paralegals are the backbone of legal teams, and I help “power up” their workflows. From streamlining document review to accelerating filings, I guide them in using AI to amplify productivity, allowing them to focus on high-value tasks.
Consulting Expert
As a consulting expert, I’m a confidential member of the legal team, offering analyses and strategies under attorney-client privilege. I safeguard sensitive information while leveraging AI to strengthen legal strategies, and I advise on the ethical and practical challenges of AI adoption, helping firms build sustainable roadmaps tailored to their goals.
Working with law firms isn’t about wearing one hat—it’s about delivering value wherever it’s needed most. Whether as a teacher or hands-on collaborator, my goal is always the same: to help legal professionals use AI tools effectively, ethically, and confidently.
